SAVE your money and your kids pride, they try to break the girls but not in the sport side of it, in the emotional and personal life of them. We had matt as our coach and was the worse experience that we ever had, besides being racist and never played volleyball in his life. He decided to play girls where they never played or the position that best suited them, decided to put girls down, decided to get mad at girls for playing the way that he "coached", there was no improvement from one tournament into another, they played exactly the same way, if you sat and watch he did the same thing every single week in and out just being on the phone doing nothing, didn't teach anything cause he never played. Attitude was nasty towards girls ( maybe that's why he got kicked out of "training" high school girls) I have heard other reasons. I have heard of coaches male and female telling girls inappropriate stupid remarks and as far as tell girls " I know who will lose their virginity first" just nasty. If you do decide to send your girls here please have a conversation with them, this coaches are bullies and don't train them at all. You can complain and bring up problems and they just blow it off, after this season 3/4 if not all the players are leaving because this nasty coaches and owners that dont take responsibility for their actions. Matt is one of the main coaches here and he is the nastiest and a joke of a human.

I find it interesting that someone has posted a negative review about downstate using my name /alias. Please note that the very accusatory negative review below is NOT posted by me or my family. Matt is a great coach - and we have not experienced the negative opinions of the comments posted below acting as me. Both our girls have played for downstate and have grown and developed as players. I hope the below reviewer might have the courtesy to list their real name and not appear as me.

This club is a total scam. It might have been good some years ago, but now all the good coaches and players are gone. Save your time and money.

This place is horrible. Last year we were participants here with a coach that made the team cry almost every tournament. Even though several parents complained, nothing was done. This year we were guest participants. There were teams that were being cheated out of points and nothing was done. And a very rude woman with a downstate shirt on yelled at the parent that was standing up for their child being cheated while the parents and kids watched. The officials let this slide right by. The coaches who should have been monitoring their team keeping score did nothing to make sure they were correctly keeping score and the kids were completely upset and discouraged. How does this create a positive environment to the team that was cheated out of the points and no one stood up for them? Not the officials, not the coaches and a very unhealthy environment was created for the rest of the day for the kids

The best local spot I have seen to play volleyball that is close to the city. Four courts different level playing, lots of skill levels. Worth the trip if you are a volleyball enthusiast. $10 entrance fee and play from 7pm until when they decide to close which could be 3am.

Have been there twice for volleyball tournaments. Facility is dark and has limited seating.

The upstairs viewing area is cramped and barely allows people to sit and watch.

Needs brighter lights and seating.

Our family had a terrible experience with Downstate once we moved to the national level. A tournament was added after we committed to the team last season that was on Easter. They threatened to kick my daughter off the team if she didn’t go. The culture was toxic at the National level. The coach berated the players and gave up on them with arms crossed if they weren’t winning. When Covid shut down the 2020 season half way through, Downstate did not refund any money to us— and we had paid for 3 programs. The leaders are bullies— parents and players are afraid to voice their concerns. There are better options out there. We found a wonderful new club with a very positive environment.

My son is having good time so I'm happy. It's just that they seem to care less about the parents who bring their kids and stay there for 2 hours because it's too far to go home and come pick them up again (That includes me) The music is too laud and we have very little space to stay around and the area is kind of messy. It's pretty expensive to support this activities and we are the one paying so, can they be a little more accommodating?
